A friend woke up before her children this morning to pack lunches, get clothes ready and check on homework. She smiled while reading some of the sentences her son wrote for ELA. Waking the kids is never easy! One by one they shuffled downstairs for a quick breakfast. My hair is sticking up! yelled her youngest son. I cant find my sneakers! growled her oldest son. Are you going to come on my field trip? asked her daughter. After lining each one up for inspection and a kiss, off they went to get the bus. Watching them board the bus, she started to cry. Deep in her soul she knows one day soon she wont be able to physically get them ready for school, or see them to the bus. Yesterday she was diagnosed with end-stage cancer. Doctors told her it was too late for treatment-Get your affairs in order, they said. She will fight anyway, and hold every single moment she has left in the palm of her hand, unwilling to let go, and squeezing out joy like a sponge that always has one more drop left to give. #begrateful
