A garden requires patient labour and attention. Plants do not grow merely to satisfy ambitions or to fulfil good intentions. They thrive because someone expended effort on them.....Liberty Hyde Bailey Notes from the Front…….Part 1 (Full Parish Council Meeting October 2013, Cedar Barn) The meeting started promptly at 8 pm, the Chair asking the Clerk for the absentee list, 3 councillors were otherwise engaged. Next up were the allotment prizes, Item 2 on the agenda, for those who worked very hard at their hobby and excelled. The winners/runners up were chosen by Cllr weaver and Cllr Slater who know how to spot a good vegetable (just kidding). The winners plus runners up were invited to shake the hand of the Chairman, collect their prize and have their photograph taken by a local budding young photographer Mr Michael Brunswick of Hazlemere. They were all enthusiastically congratulated by the councillors and members of the public present. As the winners (list below) looked at their trophies the Chair reminded them that they were only on loan for a year and had to be returned, however, you will have your name engraved on the shields. Finally remarking it was good to see a different set of winners from last year, which shows the high standards. Queensway: winner Mr. Ailward, highly commended Mr. Cooper, most improved: Mr. Clark The Dell: winner Mr. Pearman, highly commended Mr. Wiltshire The overall allotment winner was Mr. Ailwood Observation: Firstly congratulations to those who won, however, it would be good to see some ladies first taking a prize or two next year ! After that excitement the chair needed to sit down and continued with item 3 the public session, no members of the public wanted to ask a question, albeit I did notice Cllr Wood and Ms Roberts of HSA Ltd, having a cosy chat to the side of us…….out of the mouths of babes, etc…… Moving on to Item 4 the Chair commented on the Anti Social Behaviour/Local Crime Report. The council had received the written police report and the councillors agreed that the police were focused on the main issues in the area, including anti social behaviour, including taggers. Unfortunately no member of Hazlemere police was at the meeting. The chair moved onto Item 5 full council minutes from the 3rd September meeting, which is now on the HPC website. Going through each page Cllr Mapletoft asked if the councillors had any issues with the content or accuracy, none were raised and the minutes were accepted as a true reflection of the meeting. Observation: It is interesting to note that the previous administration when they ran the council could never agree the minutes in a timely manner, as in long discussions over the odd comma and full stop, I exaggerate for effect, but that is now a thing of the past as minutes are now agreed in a few minutes without the hysteria of some ex councillors. I recall reading in ex Cllr Rhodes resignation letter this year his comment that he could no longer continue participating in a dysfunctional council. We can now see who created that environment as this new significantly improved council work as a team for the good of the whole community. This is partly due to an influx of both younger men and women onto the council more representative of the community in Hazlemere. Basically there is less testosterone in the council meetings and a more mixed age group. To be continued………..outstanding matters/items from previous full council meeting, the good news is the list is getting shorter !
