A good reply to Chris Trotters column in the printed Otago Daily Times yesterday (Farmer fighting back on toxic streams issue) reminds us that we must never forget that our farmers make a huge contribution to our country in many ways. Our farmers are far from villains, as they take their responsibility of stewardship very seriously - earlier this month 9 North Otago properties were presented Awards for Environmental Excellence for 2013 and 2014 by the North Otago Irrigation Company. The Government also recently announced national standards for freshwater that will make a significant improvement to the way freshwater is managed. With the collaborative efforts of farmers, councils, and the Government we can continue to strive towards better and cleaner streams. #Working4NZ
