A great of our Kayak customers have asked to be involved in Autauga Creek Canoe Trail cleanup. Heres a note/letter from Joann Johnson requesting help on the upper creek cleanup on November 8. Heres your chance to be part of it. Its creek clearing time again on upper Autauga Creek! The main (lower) canoe trail is in fine shape, thanks largely to Skip Lobmiller and Carol and Larry York, who removed some recent blockages during the autumn creek cleanup. There have been reports of many new trees down across the upper creek, even after Jamey David managed to get it mostly cleared earlier this summer. Storms have left blockages in the creek for three miles downstream of Prattville Powersports. This section needs to be cleared again before we can re-clear the Bridge Creek access from CR 10. (Upper Autauga Creek runs through the Cross Creek Hunting Club upstream of Prattville Powersports, so that section is best left alone until hunting seasons end on Feb 1.) There is a major creek clearing day scheduled for Saturday, November 8. We plan to go downstream from Prattville Paddlesports that morning for a full day. The weather may be on the cool side (probably in the low-to-mid 70s), so please plan to bring appropriate gear to guard against hypothermia for spending much time in the water (like chest waders or a wetsuit) along with your cutting tools and canoe or kayak. In addition to chainsaws, pruning saws, and the famous come-along winches, help is needed with pulling branches out of the way as they are cut, and with securing the large woody debris. Waterproof cameras are also nice to have with, and Im hoping to have a Go Pro again by then. We also have mile marker posts and signs to install. Please reply to let me know whether you would like to participate, so I will know where to send updates and details. Volunteers have been working upstream from Allenville Road -- so the last 1.5 miles to the Allenville landing are relatively clear. A small group of volunteers is currently working upstream from the MM 8 area, so if you would like to help clear some canoe trail right away - just let me know what days you can go (weekday or weekend), and Ill help coordinate schedules so nobody works alone. The more we get done in the next two weeks, the easier the big clearing day will be. After Nov 8, we will make a plan for clearing the CR 10 access near Hwy 82 (and even further upstream).
