A great thought from my friend and fellow songwriter Julie Keyser. It goes along nicely with the song One by One youtube/watch?v=cuxZphE92-g If you’ve ever been on a trek excursion, you know the point that is, for many, the hardest to bare…the women’s pull. In most cases, it’s a climb of women only, pulling their carts up a steep hill. Men and boys are asked to stand on the side of the hill and not help, representing the loss of men to death and illness among our early pioneer forefathers which left so many women to pull handcarts alone, or only with their children. I have only experienced a group trek once and it was a one day intensive version, but I will never forget the women’s pull. Men in tears on the side as they watched us push and pull our heavy carts up a steep hill on a very hot day. But each of us ladies made it and we helped each other out. Once again, in our day, Saints are being asked to pull handcarts in a very real, but figurative way. We are giving to the Lord, in greater numbers than ever before, our sons and daughters to the work of Salvation and at an even earlier age and we, as their parents, are to watch from the side. For many of our young men and women their trek of service is the hardest thing they have yet to experience and some are struggling. Some may not make it all the way, but their sacrifice will not go unnoticed by the Lord. Most will make it to the end of their service and all will be changed…hopefully refined, coming home with ragged shoes, shirts, suits and dresses. If, during their struggle of pushing spiritual handcarts through the heavy laden sands of sin and despair in our day, they learn to recognize the angels around them, helping them, pushing them when they no longer have the desire or strength, then they will recognize the incredible part they play in this Marvelous Work and a Wonder. May we as parents, teachers, siblings, extended family and friends pray with greater earnestness than ever, for the strength, protection (both spiritually and physically) compassion, power, LOVE, obedience and testimony our fulltime missionaries need to fulfill their missions and finish their trek. This is my humble prayer. Julie Keyser
