A hacker might be behind bars — or behind a desk in a swanky office- depends what he chooses or what destiny chooses for him probably. While black hats referred to as the “bad hackers,” write worms and take what does not belong to them, white hats are good guys, who work as security experts and protect the Internet from those black hats. Here are some Black Hat who Converted to White Hat HackerzzZZ.. :) Kevin Mitnick, aka Condor Kevin Mitnick had a keen interest in ham radios and a deep curiosity about technology. He specialized in social engineering and tricked people. He got access to several companies’ systems through social engineering alone. He was finally arrested in North Carolina and after serving five years in jail, Mitnick founded his own security firm dubbed as Mitnick Security Consulting, LLC, which runs penetration tests for its clients. Kevin Poulsen, aka Dark Dante Kevin Poulsen is from California who is known for his capability to control phone lines. He hacked into the computers that managed a number of telephone systems, and also of those owned by several L.A. radio stations. He fixed the stations’ on-air contests and claimed the car and $20,000. When the FBI finally arrested him, he pleaded guilty, served his time. After getting released, he rehabbed his image into that of an investigative journalist. He currently works for Wired. Poulsen has written a book called Kingpin, which provides details about his experiences as a hacker. Robert Tappan Morris Robert Tappan Morris is the guy who is responsible for creating the first computer virus, which is called as the Morris Worm. This worm was not used for stealing the information but it caused computers to crash. Actually Morris had created this virus to measure the size of the Internet to see how far the virus could reach. Morris was arrested and was the tried under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA). Today, the CFAA is a controversial law. At present, he is working for MIT in the electrical engineering and computer science department. Adrian Lamo, aka Homeless Hacker Adrian Lamo can be classified as one of the most controversial hackers who is known as the “Homeless Hacker. He unlawfully got access to a majority of systems such as the New York Times, Microsoft, Yahoo, and LexisNexis. He was arrested and had to pay a fine for the crimes. Lamo is now working as a computer security consultant. Mark Abene, aka Phiber Optik Mark Abene learnt computer programming languages when he came to know that he could access DEC minicomputers using guest accounts posted to a BBS (bulletin board system — an early form of the chat room). As the DEC computers were more powerful as compared to his own, he took to the library to learn. He came in touch with the Legion of Doom, which was a group of individuals who were as curious as he was, who later formed a smaller hacking group known as the Masters of Doom. The FBI followed Abene and several MOD members and was eventually arrested. He currently serves as a security consultant. Admin : $hivam
