「A handful of Internet e-celeb and blogger gadflies have dragged - TopicsExpress

「A handful of Internet e-celeb and blogger gadflies have dragged gaming culture through mud for five months now, because one of their friends was outed as a relationship abuser and pathological liar, who got positive press despite her game being terrible, seemingly because she had personal relationships with gaming journalists. After that, more corruption was discovered, then more, then more. And rather than just deal with it, these idiot journalists (more like bloggers) roundly demonized and victim-blamed their friends ex; resurrected obnoxious 1990s throwback stereotypes about gamers being all white teen virgin males living in basements; while fabricating a completely idiotic narrative about how gamers supposedly want to slap video game controllers out of the hands of women everywhere. A handful of absolutely dishonest and uncivil people have been harassing, insulting, doxxing and blacklisting. But these are the same people who pretend to be innocent victims; or brave feminists and social justice advocates. Gamergate on twitter, for MONTHS, has policed harassment and cyber-bullying (in addition to raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for various charities). Their detractors have: - openly advocated bullying on LGBT Spirit Day. - advocated doxxing - created a stunningly poor block bot that claims to oppose harassment but really just smears thousands of people as harassers including members of the IGDA which promoted it - accused very well known progressive journalist David Pakman of leading hate mobs to attack women - told the most STUNNING lies I have ever seen in my life - told any liberals, feminists, women, LGBT, PoC who disagree with them that they are all self-hating monsters; or accused them of lying and actually being all white male sock puppets」 - someone defending adam baldwins right to go to supanova pop culture expo
