A key lesson that I have learnt over again in the past few weeks - TopicsExpress

A key lesson that I have learnt over again in the past few weeks is how critical it is to mix things up. Yes, consistency is important to gain improvement and results. But, this approach can lead to burnout, fatigue and reduced enthusiasm for the love of movement. So make sure that you clearly periodise your programs. Some points to consider: 1) Create a solid base, typically aerobic building. This provides a backbone to launch into the speed work and hills. During this phase, fix any mechanical links in the chain and ensure that you do your strength work! 2) In the solid base phase, explore, dont go down the same track all the time. If there is a trail that you have never gone down before.... do it! 3) Add speed and hills into the mix once you are strong and the aerobic platform is there. 4) Many runners ignore the need for strength work. Strong muscles, maintains form and enables you to hold your form and push when you need it. Too often I see people getting injured because they lack this preparation prior to hitting the track or the hills. Have a great Monday! Rosco
