A letter from Duncan: My name is Duncan Hughes and I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s 11 years ago at the age of 32, I am married with 2 children a boy aged 13 and a girl aged 11. We also have my constant companion a 10 year old German short-haired pointer called Jack. I recently posted a picture of Jack on my Facebook page, detailing his behaviour towards me. Such was the response that my wife persuaded me to try and use the feedback in a positive way. Her idea was for me to write a weekly blog as Jack, sharing a dog’s view of what it is like to live in a family when someone has Parkinson’s. Although this is way outside my comfort zone (I am an accountant by training and a fixer by profession!!) the reaction has been good and the feedback positive. So as a novice I am encouraged!! The use of Jack’s viewpoint has enabled me to address some of the difficult issues that arise from having Parkinson’s.
