A light-hearted first-person story today: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I thoroughly enjoyed “Wisdom from the Batcave.” I want to tell you how one of the principles of the book -- "What Would Batman Do?" -- had an immediate and positive impact on me and others. I quote from the book: “… Batman never asks if he can do it; he asks only if it needs to be done.” So here’s what happened: It was a Monday morning and I was on a long line to get into the NYC parking lot near my medical office, concerned that I was going to be late for my first appointment of the day. The street that leads into my parking lot is narrow and cars fight to enter from two directions. On a busy day, this causes a bottleneck that prevents the cars from exiting the parking lot while simultaneously increasing the number of cars who are fighting to enter the parking lot. The result is chaos, frustration and rage. So just as I was about to add to the negativity, Batman’s wisdom burst forth and I asked myself, “What needs to be done?” The answer was obvious and I did it: I got out of my car and took control of the situation by playing the role of traffic cop. I had one car move slightly to the right, another to the left, a third a bit in reverse, and the bottleneck began to ease. After ten minutes, I managed to get the cars to exit the parking lot, enabling new cars to enter without causing an accident, a fight and more angry, passive behavior. As each car passed me, the driver opened his window and thanked me. It was an exhilarating experience of doing what needed to be done rather than adding to the craziness. I believe that in any given situation in which we have the capacity both to ask ourselves what needs to be done and the wisdom to answer the question, then it follows logically that we have the ability to do what the situation demands. Your book is wise, practical, and necessary. Keep up the good work. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ What a great story! Thanks for sharing! Please keep those stories coming!
