A little Declan update. As some of you know, Declan walks on his toes and has done so since he started to walk. Well, we finally had our appointment with the pediatric orthopaedic surgeon yesterday. Given all our options we decided to go with the serial casting. This will be a series of casts on both feet that will be on for 6-12 weeks. The first cast will have his heel built up as if he is still walking on his toes. Every two weeks they will recast him and lower the heel. The goal is to gradually stretch his heel chord so he can eventually walk heel to toe. Once the casting is over he will wear special braces for 6-12 months. He will have one set for day use and one for night. Also, after the casting he will start physical therapy for one to two years. There is an 80-90% success rate with the road we have chosen. Anyone who knows Declan knows he has two speeds. Fast and even faster... we all are going to need prayers and patience in the next couple of years!
