A little foray into box making... Excerpt from my blog: I used curly maple for the sides and cherry for the top and bottom panels. My artist signature, in the shape of Neptune’s trident, is hand carved from verawood. The pipe is held in place with leather straps and hand carved mahogany supports. All of the joinery was hand cut with planes, chisels, and hand saws. As well as the initials of the new owner which are carved into the inside of the cherry lid. A light coating of boiled linseed oil helps to protect the wood, while preserving its natural appearance. This type of finish will age gracefully, and produce a beautiful patina over time… a quality that all heirloom quality pieces should have.
