A little information on back pain This is not a huge rant, Im not trying to prove a point, and Im certainly not a Physio or Chiropractor, although I secretly wish I was, those people are geniuses! I simply want to share my views and thoughts on a topic which is discussed frequently within the box, and hammered on the internet Im tired of hearing the CrossFit haters slamming CrossFit for what seems like every injury under the sun. Youd think CrossFit created injuries. Its very easy for people to attack a sport by which they are threatened by There have been freak incidents within the CrossFit world where athletes have been left quite seriously injured, theres no hiding from that. Are some of our members injured at the moment, of course! When you consider there are over 9000 boxes throughout the world, a rough calculation of 1 million CrossFit athletes, there is bound to be injuries and accidents The way I see it, Id rather pick up an injury participating in something I LOVE, than pick it up sitting at my desk I have be CrossFitting for over 2 years, and I have been injured twice. Each time I have had to step back from training for a minimum of 8 weeks. The road back from injury to full fitness has been emotional, hard work, but would I change it? hell no. I didnt get the injuries from CrossFit per say, I just happened to be taking part in CrossFit when they happened. My first injury to my lumbar curve was because my lazy ass had been sitting at a desk, for pretty much all of my career, in the wrong posture. I then expected to back squat, with a heavy weight, and ignore the warning signs my body was giving me. I had created the underlying issue by sitting at the desk in the wrong posture, and then point blank refused to listen to my body. What a douche. Whats funny, is that the first injury was a ticking time bomb, if it hadnt of happened at the Box if would have happened when I moved house, picked my nephew up. That bad boy was coming to get me, CrossFit or no CrossFit. My second injury was pure stupidity. I watched as a friend loaded her weight into the back rack, I took one look at her and thought I can do that, and if I cant do that, I should be able to do that. Here lies the problem. A cock off pursued, not that she knew it, it was all going on in my head, and I woke up the next morning screwing. I am finally coming out of the second injury and I blame no one but myself for both the injuries. How naive can you be to not look after yourself, to not listen when your body tells you. The article attached is written by the NHS but highlights my point with regards to back injuries. As the article details, back injuries are the second most cause of long term sickness outside of a CrossFit Box The point I make is train smart, listen to your body when you train inside the box. Listen to the coaches and dont be coaxed into a cock off! Practice and implement the mantra of technique, consistency, intensity then load. Practice virtuosity! Consider how you go about your daily life, are you looking after yourself inside and outside of the box. Fix your chair to the correct position at your desk, better still, get rid of your chair! Do you drive in the correct position or are you all out gangster If you are one of our members carrying a back injury, talk it through with us, we will always always point you in the right direction, and dont forget, sitting still is the enemy Strong backs forever, Baggott OUT! CLEAR!
