A little news from Sandals, thought you guys would enjoy it: Sandals Resorts International is in discussions to build a 600-room Beaches resort on Jamaicas southwest coast, according to CEO Adam Stewart. The resort would be built adjacent to the existing 360-room Sandals Whitehouse European Village & Spa. Sandals has 500 acres of land at the site; the new Beaches would occupy about 140 acres. A Greg Norman-designed golf course is part of the development plan. Beaches is Sandals resort brand for families, with locations in Negril and Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. Next year, Sandals plans to begin converting its Grand Pineapple resort in Antigua to a Beaches resort. At the Jamaica Product Exchange, Stewart also reported that the $65 million Sandals Barbados will open on time on Jan. 28. The 280-room resort will have nine restaurants, including Butchs Chophouse and a sushi restaurant and sake bar, and a swimming pool that is 510 feet in length. Advance reservations are great, especially out of the U.K. Were bringing more than 3,000 agents to our resorts on mega-fams this fall, and Sandals Barbados is a key part of their training curriculum, Stewart said. The CEO also reported that the five over-the-water suites at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay will be built within the next nine to 10 months. We have temporarily shelved our plans for the over-the-water suites in St. Lucia. In the coming months, the Sandals Grande Riviera in Ocho Rios will get a new name, Stewart said, as well as new entertainment and a European gardens in place of the existing lobby. Sailing camps for kids have been added at the Beaches resorts in Negril and Turks & Caicos, according to Stewart. bit.ly/1fD3Lnd
