A little video of what the ewes are up to this winter. We have - TopicsExpress

A little video of what the ewes are up to this winter. We have kept a field of grass for the hopefully pregnant ewes to take them through to springtime. If we let them roam over the whole field only the top part of the grass leaves would be eaten and the rest wasted. By making temporary paddocks within the big field it forces the ewes to eat more of the whole plant and when the grass is eaten right down like you see in the video it will hopefully grow back even better in the spring. When the grass height gets eaton below a certain level then the sheep are moved onto a fresh paddock. Little bit of learning and tweaking to do on the way to get it right but looking ok so far. Its a new way of thinking for us but hopefully the result is fit and healthy ewes that wont require too much extra feed and much better grass growth come spring time so we can get those lambs growing as well as possible.
