A local organization aimed at creating jobs and keeping people employed is welcoming plans about to become law that give newly-paroled Michigan inmates a Certificate of Employability. Thats if they finish a career & technical ed course and other requirements; Ann Hardy of the Oceana County Economic Development Corporation says ex-cons are like everyone else – they need to brush up on their employment skills. She says companies in her county are having difficulty finding qualified workers lately. Another measure about to be signed into law lets employers show that they viewed a Certificate of Employability, to prove theyre diligent in at least considering hiring someone with a criminal history.
