A long day today, a long walk this afternoon. I wrote 100 Thank Yous to God when I lost my Dad, 100 Thank Yous to God when I lost Kenny. . . now, 100 Thank Yous to God for my oldest brother, Jim. Three special men in my life, 3 of my best friends plucked out of my life in a 3 1/2 yr. period. . . I dont get it, I dont understand it. After my walk on a beautiful autumn day I can still say, Yes Lord, I do still trust you, Yes my faith remains in tack, I ask though, that you fill this deep, deep hole in me again. 100 Thank Yous To God 1. Thank You God for having my oldest brother, Jim, for his 69 yrs. of life. 2. Thank You for his love. 3. Thank You that his being my 1/2 brother was never discussed in length, it truly didnt even exist between us. 4. Thank You for his love of people. 5. Thank You for the role model he was. 6. Thank You for the importance that family always was to him. 7. Thank You that his life could always be interrupted by those he loved and even others. 8. Thank You for Jims curly red hair, hair that I loved. 9. Thank You for his giving heart. 10. Thank You for his work ethic. 11. Thank You for his patience with me and others. 12. Thank You for the way he took care of our Dad and Mom, as a devoted son. 13. Thank You for his care of us all. 14. Thank You for his love of his grandkids sports and all the hours sitting in bleachers. 15. Thank You for his love of fishing and the outdoors. 16. Thank You for his love of camping. 17. Thank You for his love of golfing with humor. 18. Thank You for his being a cheerleader to us all. 19. Thank You for bird houses and squirrel feeders built by him. 20. Thank You for his charcoal grey truck and the gospel music that always poured from it. 21. Thank You for the Gaither music that he and I both know will be playing in heaven. 22. Thank You for raspberry bushes that our Dad taught us how to raise. 23. Thank You for family picnics at the park. 24. Thank You for homemade ice cream. 25. Thank You for a 50th anniversary party for our folks that we spent in the ER with them eating vending machine sandwiches with. 26. Thank You for sweet memories of tender moments. 27. Thank You for phone calls that were salve to my hurting heart. 28. Thank You for a brother that could and did cry with me. 29. Thank You for a forgiving brother. 30. Thank You for a brother that always gave me grace. 31. Thank You for a brother that always believed you could never break blood ties. 32. Thank You for U-Haul trucks thru Wyoming snow storms. 33. Thank You for ferry rides with big brother at the helm enjoying Gods beautiful creation at its best. 34. Thank You for his tears when I married and left Denver. 35. Thank You for his trips to WA to see me and my family. 36. Thank You for his love of my kids and grandkids. 37. Thank You for weed eaters and lawn mowers without primer buttons. 38. Thank You for blackberry pies in Burlington WA 39. Thank You for trips to the islands and whale sightings that wed never forget. 40. Thank You for a beautiful sunset of goodbye.. 41. Thank You for a man that continued to tend to our Dads grave. 42. Thank You for Jims bear hugs that I could hide in. 43. Thank You for a brother who read my heart the first time that I returned home to IA without Kenny. 44. Thank You for a heart connection that words were never a match for. 45. Thank You for his self sacrificing love. 46. Thank You for his words to me at his prognosis of terminal cancer - were going forward Sis, dont forget that. 47. Thank You for a brother who shared hed go to/thru hell for those he loved, of which he did. 48. Thank You for a brother who knew no stranger, even at times I wish he did. 49. Thank You for a brother who couldnt keep his hands off the babies. 50. Thank You for a brother who truly believed he was in a win/win situation with his cancer. He either would remain with us healed or hed be heaven bound. 51. Thank You for all the laughs that we had together. 52. Thank You for his being my confidant and I his. 53. Thank You for the folks Harvest Church coffee mug that he always clamed as his own. 54. Thank You for that crazy leaf blower of his, that he carried everywhere, convincing his new widowed sister that she too needed one. 55. Thank You for the snow flakes that we stood under together the night that our Dad died. 56. Thank You for boxes of apricots on he and Barbs way home from a WA trip. 57. Thank You for his care for me as his only sister, he was sensitive to that. 58. Thank You that he truly was my precious. 59. Thank You that I was babe to him. 60. Thank You for the freckles that we shared. 61. Thank You for the opportunity to give him a haircut at the hospital. 62. Thank You for the honor of giving him a foot rub while there too. 63. Thank You for the lesson of learning to live with no regrets, no 911s of last minute makeups or do overs. 64. Thank You for the courage to take him forward with me, as well as Dad and Kenny. 65. Thank You for knowing that his strength he was pulling from God. 66. Thank You for a sunrise that will come yet this morning. 67. Thank You for a tomorrow where well eventually meet up again. 68. Thank You for a love that never gave up on either of us. 69. Thank You for his loyalty and defense of me. 70. Thank You for his willingness to match my step in my grief over losing Kenny, when I could barely walk. 71. Thank You for a man who cried while reading scripture from Kens Bible, the day of Kennys memorial. 72. Thank You for a man that reminded me that one day at a time was enough. 73. Thank You for a brother who would have gone to the moon and back for me and he did more than once. 74. Thank You for a brother that knew no balance in his life, he just gave of himself and trusted God to cover the rest. 75. Thank You for a brother who loved my kids thru a tornado hit, not just with words but with deeds. 76. Thank You for a brother who knew my kids and loved them dearly. . . 77. Enough to threaten Eric, that hed kick his butt if he got out of the Coast Guard without his retirement. 78. Enough to tell me what a grand young lady Tara had become. 79. Enough to tell me how proud he was of Phils heart for the things of God. 80. Thank You for our muddled journey, walking thru our grief of losing our Dad. 81. Thank You at Jims attempt to walk as close as he could in my private journey of losing Ken. 82. Thank You for Jims heart, that it was never just about him and his, but about all. 83. Thank You for that last evening we had together in hospice. 84. Thank You for our last see you later and his attempt at a response, which showed me he was still with us and listening to all that I had shared with him. 85. Thank You for Jims love of my grandkids, filling in as Opa where he could. 86. Thank You for my grandkids love of him and Aunt Rhubarb. 87. Thank You for Jims encouragement to me to keep on living. 88. Thank You for heart strings that death cant break. 89. Thank You for Jim and my talks about our faith and where it was taking us. 90. Thank You that Jim walked out his faith in action, not words. 91. Thank You for a relationship with my brother that I grieve deeply in losing. 92. Thank You for the soothing touch on my heart to be his little sis and feel that protection. 93. Thank You that in the end I knew when he was his families now and not mine, I needed to step back. 94. Thank You for grace and mercy. 95. Thank You for hope. 96. Thank You for hymns of comfort and hope for eternity. 97. Thank You for goodbyes that arent goodbyes, but simply see you laters. 98. Thank You for homecomings of no more pain, no more sorrow. 99. Thank You for a brother that rocked me as a baby with colic, and one that I could sooth in the end by rubbing and patting his arm, assuring him that he was fine. 100. Thank You for Jims example of how to die and enter heavens door, with confidence and steadfastness in his faith, never letting go or questioning, may I do the same when Im called home.
