A look ahead at the forecast for Christmas Day in Atlantic Canada. The last few model runs have been consistent in indicating a major storm developing over the central US and moving north through Ontario into Hudson Bay. Strong winds, mild temperatures and lots of rain is forecast for the Maritimes unfortunately.....it looks like the precip will hold off in Newfoundland until Boxing Day. It is too early to be able to rely on forecast precipitation amounts but raw model output is indicating significant amounts....in excess of 100 mm in some areas by the evening of the 25th. Note this is one forecast model output....forecasters rely on multiple models to make predictions and those models are updated every 6 to 12 hours. The evolution if this system may be somewhat different than what this model is suggesting this far ahead...stay tuned.
