A lot of confusion seems to be surrounding the term open-minded. Often I hear people saying that they have nothing to state regarding a particular issue/topic or they think all opinions are of equal importance because they are open-minded people. What this suggests to me is an empty skull in which anything can be thrown! Being open-minded is about the ability to distinguish an intellectual crap from a robust argument which is supported by logic and evidence and the willingness to change it with new information. Entertaining all possibilities with the brain as the filter to which ones to accept. In this regard, Carl Sagans thought may be a good guide. It pays to keep an open mind, but not so open your brains fall out.
