A lot of my friends have been making babies lately. In addition to diapers and nice gifts Ive been sending them this Louis CK quote. Any parent who is honest will tell you, you live with ambivalence. You look at the face of your beautiful child and you think two things at the exact same time: I love this kid so much that it‘s changed my whole life. I love other people more because of how much I love her. I love people that died years ago more. My love has traveled time because of how completely I love her and she loves me back. She’s completely given value to life that didn’t exist before. AND I regret every decision that led to her birth. Yes, friends, you will likely feel this. Thats ambivalence. And we all feel it for the big things in our lives. The best part? Its totally OK. If you feel it, it doesnt mean somethings wrong with you. It means youre normal. That youre feeling the things that human beings feel.
