A lot of the problems they are talking about are related to the erosion of Union membership due in large part to Government policy. The in vogue thing for polititians to do right now is to bash Unions. They mainly pick on the public sector unions, but it also affects private sector ones. Anyhow the point I am making is that the drop in Unionization is a drop in people with pension plans other than CPP. As stated in the Article the maximum benefit you can get through CPP is a bit over $12000.00 which we all know does not cut the mustard. These people will not be allowed to starve (I hope) so tax dollars will be needed to help them out as many of these individuals do not have a private pension plan which most unions (and of course polititians) do have. I hope they do make changes to CPP to increase the benefits, but not passing laws that weaken unions would also help to alleviate a lot of the problems referenced in the article as well.
