A lot of you have been writing to me with regard to my opinion on the current protests in Ukraine. It is very interesting to hear your opinions, especially those who have some understanding of the situation. It is very remarkable to see the people genuinely showing their dissatisfaction with the current Administration. It is especially unique for a country of the former Soviet bloc. Consequently, many of you are discontent with Russias quasi involvement in this. Instead you want the West to be involved in the coordination and resolution of these protests and the guidance in installing a new government. I am frankly in favor of neither, and it seems that there might be some consensus reached without the involvement of either Russia or the West. However, I am convinced that the involvement of the West would be more detrimental. Remember two things: 1. Political and social models that are applicable in the West (and have only really been so for the past 50 years at that), are not always or currently applicable to non-Western states. 2. Do your research and dont just rely/base your arguments entirely off a few CNN videos, buzzfeed articles (for the really lazy ones of you) and NYTimes and other newspaper articles. Perhaps hear out the opinion of someone who is a native, or who does business or who is consistently aware of what is going on in said state.
