A lovely day in Edinburgh..until I saw a man violently slap his child on the face, I mean really slap him, almost a punch. Then he lifted him and roughly threw him back into the car which had his wife. He hit him because his child wanted to follow him across the road, and had obviously got out the car without permission. But the wee lad stood on the pavement and the father just subjected him to this violent attack. He then crossed the road towards were I was standing, he was holding his younger child. I stared at him, and was standing at the entrance of the shop he was heading for. He looked at me and said agressively what the f?uck are you looking at. I replied At you hitting your child. He got extremely angry, swearing and screaming at me. I cant remember everything but I remember Im disciplining my child, its none of your f?ucking business, you f?ucking f?ckwit.I will discipline my children the way I want, you keep out of it f?uckwit I felt my body react, this man was smaller than me but well built and 20 years younger and clearly potentially violent. But we were in a busy Edinburgh street. I replied thats not discipline, its child abuse. He exploded, more Fs and insults (he was still holding his younger child and I had Skye with me) and he said what the f?ck you going to do about it you f?cking arsehole. So I decided to phone the police. My hands were shaking so much I could hardly dial the numbers. Then he moved closer and told me to get off the phone or else. Kate came out of the shop, and asked him whats your problem?, then the shopkeeper came out and a customer. He decided to make a run for it. He screamed something at his wife who then got into the driving seat and like a scene from a movie he ran into the car and his wife roared off. Fortunately the shopkeeper got his number. Despite it all, it was the sight of his child hysterically crying after he violently slapped/punched him. that affected me most There are so many wonderful loving fathers struggling to get access to their children, then there are appaulling fathers like this man. God knows what he does in the privacy of his home if he does this on the street.
