A lovely testimonial just received from Louise Malone about the behaviour work we did with her gorgeous dog Charlie; I first met Kris when I contacted her through the website about my dog Charlie and his issues with other dogs. The questionnaire I filled in made it much easier to articulate the problems I was having - Charlie was my first dog and was so worried that I was doing it all wrong and his problems were my own fault. Her initial response was incredibly reassuring as she was the first Id spoken to about the issue that didnt declare him dominant and use this as the reason for his reactions around certain dogs. To say I was nervous when Kris was due to meet Charlie and I is an understatement, but she put me at ease straight away. She was fantastic with Charlie and answered all my (many!) questions. I had my report within 2 days and found it invaluable to have everything on paper as with the best will in the world, its impossible to take it all in, especially when we were going through the practical exercises. When I encountered issues Kris was always available to answer my quesitons, calm my fears and reassure me that setbacks werent the end of the world and could be learned from. I saw the reactive rovers course advertised on the facebook I signed up immediately. Charlies issues meant that normal group training classes werent possible and I spent most of my walks trying to stay as far away as possible from other dogs so it was easy to think that I was the only one with a dog who didnt want to socialise with others. The panic soon set in - Charlie will be the worst, he wont cope, hell disrupt the whole class...how am I ever going to get him in the door?! I neednt have worried - the sessions had be planned with almost military precision. Everything had been thought through, from the positioning of the dogs in the hall to the order in which we entered. Sometimes I think Kris knows the dogs better than the owners. Charlie coped far better than I dared hope to imagine and it was such a relief to meet other people who had experienced the same as Charlie and I. I find it so disheartening to see other trainers criticising and sometimes ridiculing reward-based training methods. I fail to see the point of transferring Charlies fear of other dogs to a fear of the consequences of behaving according to his instincts. Its not a quick fix, but if you think your dog is worth the time and effort then I couldnt recommend Kris and her team more - theyre not only good with animals, but their owners too.
