A major barrier hindering large scale continuous year round - TopicsExpress

A major barrier hindering large scale continuous year round production of Black Soldier fly larvae (BSFL) is the absence of practical knowledge on how to design, build and economically operate a BSFL production facility. Weve posted a blog on our website titled BSF Metrics & Yields| Scale Up Production of Black Soldier Flies which presents data gathered at our DipTerra LLC pilot plant on (i) food scrap loading rates relative to BSFL processing space needed; (ii) cyclic fluctuations and average yields in BSFL production accompanying continuous operation of a BSFL facility; and (iii) the average feed conversion ratio associated with raising BSFL on food scrap waste. This information can be used to project how much bin space is needed to produce a target level of BSFL in addition to how much food scrap would be required in supporting growth and harvest the target level of BSFL. We hope this information will be useful whether you want to farm BSFL as feedstock for chickens, or make projections on the feasibility of scaling up production to industrial levels that one day might be used as an alternate feedstock supplement in place of Menhaden fish meal in animal feed stocks in general.
