These folks can destroy all the evidence they wish. What they are incapable of knowing is that thanks to the highly active classified systems of the NRO, the United States Intelligence Community already has the evidence and full knowledge of what actually happened. However, due to the classified nature of the NRO activities and technology they are very careful as to what they say and/or release publicly. This same thing happened when the Russians shot down Korean Airlines Flight 007 back in August of 1983. Once the Reagan Administration realized the political advantage of the information they had, they immediately made it publicly available to a limited degree while still protecting the technology behind the intelligence and even the existence of the RNO. This one incident, the shoot down of 007, played a large role in the collapse of the Former Soviet States. I see the political advantage the current intelligence we hold on this last incident could play out in the outcome of the events in the Ukraine. It is just a matter of time.
