A man drops his arms and theyre off. They race by several businesses toward the Moorland Road exit. The video was posted on social media sites by a group called Midwest Street Drags. In it, license plates and street signs are concealed. Its now the subject of a police investigation. The video features a McLaren and a black Ford GT. They are two high-performance, rare cars, each worth at least $250,000. Were guessing with those kind of high performance vehicles that the speeds are up over the 120, 130 mph mark, New Berlin police Capt. Mike Glider said. The videos were taken down from Facebook and YouTube but not before police caught wind of the dangerous driving. New Berlin and the Waukesha County Sheriffs Department are teaming up to track and catch the group. If it gets to be the speeds high enough and dangerous enough, it could lead to more serious criminal charges, Glider said. Police believe the video taken on I-43 is from mid-August, and right now, the biggest thing theyre trying to figure out, is who was driving the cars. But Glider said that may just be the beginning of exposing a much larger operation. Its going take a while and see how in-depth this is, whos all involved, where its been happening, how long its been happening, where the races are being held, Glider said. In the meantime, police will be stepping up patrols and counting on the public to help them out. Wed be looking for any help from the public. Probably nobody in the group is going to be coming forward, but hopefully somebody whos witnessed some of these events could shed a little light on them, Glider said. A viewer contacted WISN 12 News to make us aware of the street racing. Then, law enforcement officers started investigating after WISN 12 News made them aware of the video. Authorities told WISN 12 News because the cars are so rare, they should be able to track down the owners soon. Police said penalties could range anywhere from a felony charge for endangering safety to a traffic citation. Thats why help from the public might make a difference.
