A man has been stopped from boarding an international cruise ship before being arrested and charged by detectives investigating a methylamphetamine supply syndicate. Earlier this year (2014) police from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) formed Strike Force Deray to investigate a syndicate allegedly involved in the supply of methylamphetamine. On 21 August 2014, detectives located and seized 1.9 kilograms of methylamphetamine from a car in Roberston. The seizure was followed by an operation on Monday 8 September 2014, which resulted in MEOCS detectives arresting a man and woman who were sitting in a car parked at a lookout in Bulli Tops. A subsequent search of their car resulted in officers locating a .32 calibre Remington Colt model 25 semi-automatic pistol and a magazine with ten rounds of ammunition. Both the man – a 27-year-old from Camden – and the woman – a 31-year-old from Robertson – were taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with a number of offences. Both are currently before the courts. The investigation by Strike Force Deray continued and about 2pm yesterday (Wednesday 8 October 2014) detectives were contacted by officers from Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) who stopped and detained a man as he attempted to board a cruise ship at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney. MEOCS police attended the Overseas Passenger Terminal and arrested the man – a 36-year-old from Theresa Park – before taking him to Sydney City Police Station, where he was charged with: - Knowingly take part in the supply of a prohibited drug greater than commercial quantity; - Direct criminal organisation; and, - Deal with property suspected to be proceeds of crime. He was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court today (Thursday 9 October 2014).
