A man is in a critical condition following a firework incident at Sans Souci this morning. Just after 12am (Thursday 1 January 2015) police were called to Riverside Drive following reports of a man injured on the beach. It’s believed a group of people were on the beach when a 29-year-old man attempted to light a firework. An explosion occurred, injuring the man. Emergency services were called and the injured man was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to St George Hospital. He remains there in a critical condition, suffering facial and head injuries. No one else was injured during the incident. Officers attached to St George Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene. As police investigate the circumstances leading up to the incident, they are appealing for any witnesses who haven’t yet spoke to police to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
