COUNTRY MUSIC GREAT AND OUTBACK LEGEND TED EGAN TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD! Tuesday 21st January 2014: The CMAA Lifetime Achievement Award is the recognition of the outstanding contribution that has been made to Australian country music over the decades. This year the CMAA are proud to announce that the 2014 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award is the Northern Territory’s outback icon and industry great, TED EGAN AO, who will be honoured in front of his peers at the 42nd Country Music Awards of Australia to be held at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment & Conference Centre (TRECC) on Saturday 25th January 2014. TED EGAN was born in Melbourne but has lived most of his life in the Northern Territory. For many years, from 1949 Ted worked in outback postings as a patrol officer, reserve superintendent, teacher, entertainer and writer. He has served as Governor Administrator of the Northern Territory from 2003-2007 and was declared ‘Territorian of the Year’ in 2000 and listed as a ‘Living National Treasure’ in 2002. But it is Ted’s prolific songwriting about the many years he has spent working in outback Queensland and the Territory with the Aboriginal people that has seen him produce over thirty albums and saw him awarded with an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) medal for his amazing contribution to the literary heritage of Australia through song and verse. Albums such as ‘Bangtail Muster,’ ‘Rodeo Australia’, ‘Drover’s Boy’, children’s album, ‘The Urupunga Frog’ and his latest offering, ’Queensland Opera’ reflect the many life experiences of TED EGAN, now immortalised in song. CMAA President Dobe Newton, had this to say about the much loved and respected performer, It has been my honour to have known and worked with Ted since I first saw a magic concert in Alice Springs in the late 70s. He was then, and remains, the quintessential Australian bush storyteller. With this award, the CMAA, the industry and the fans recognise and celebrate a truly wonderful contribution to our culture and our community. Like so many others, I’m proud to be your mate.” To bestow him with this honour at the 42nd Country Music Awards of Australia, will be another iconic Australian and fellow performer, JOHN WILLIAMSON and esteemed Bush balladeers JEFF BROWN and DEAN PERRETT will perform ‘DROVER’S BOY’ in a fitting tribute to this industry legend. The awards are expected to be presented to a capacity audience that will witness fifteen Golden Guitar trophies awarded to the industry’s best. Hosted by sister act, THE McCLYMONTS, the gala ceremony is country music’s night of nights.
