A man received a fractured skull and broken ankle after challenging two burglars in Chadderton. At around 5.30pm on Tuesday 16 December 2014, two men climbed into the back garden of a home on Halsey Close and broke in. They searched the home, which was empty at the time, and left empty handed. As they climbed out of back garden, they were spotted by a next door neighbour. The 28-year-old man shouted for them to stop but when they ran, he gave chase. As they ran from Thorley Close, onto Butterworth Lane and Crescent Road, the man managed to grab one of them. There was a struggle before the offender hit the man over the head with a heavy object, causing him to fall to the floor. Both men then left. One man is described as being white, in his late teens to mid 20s, tanned, of skinny build, 5ft 8in tall, had a small moustache and wore a baseball type jacket. The only description of the second man is he was wearing a hooded top. Detective Sergeant Richard Arthern said: “The victim was outraged that these two men had broken into his neighbour’s home and gave chase. When he caught up with one of them, he was hit with such force, he received a fractured skull. He staggered backwards and fell to the ground leaving him with a broken ankle and in a lot of pain. “Thankfully he is recovering well in hospital. “I would ask anyone who may have seen two men break into the house or the attack itself, to contact police as soon as possible.
