A message from Board of Education President, Carol L. Perkins At our June 25, 2013 special meeting, the Columbus City Schools Board of Education unanimously selected J. Daniel Good, Ph.D., as Interim Superintendent to lead Columbus City Schools until a permanent successor can be identified. He will take over for retiring Superintendent/CEO, Gene T. Harris, Ph.D. following her departure on June 28. Dr. Good has been the Superintendent of Westerville City Schools for the past six years, and was Superintendent of Wooster City Schools for four years. Prior to that, Dr. Good worked for the Ohio Department of Education in various capacities, including Chief of Improvement Services and Executive Director of the Center for Curriculum and Assessment. The Board has every confidence that Dr. Good is the leader that we need at this time to move us forward. Working with Dr. Good, we look forward to building on the great work of Dr. Harris, the 2012 and 2013 Millage Committees, the Mayor, and the Education Commission. The Board and Mayor Coleman will be working closely with Dr. Good to review our current Board Priorities – and to establish immediate priorities for the coming year. Among the items at the top of that list is finalizing the implementation of new systems relating to the student records investigation and addressing any other issues associated with the Auditor of State’s Final Report, reengagement with the community, and passage of a levy to get us back on a solid financial footing. This is a new day for Columbus City Schools. While our challenges will not disappear overnight, this school district, these children, and our community are worthy of our best – and we will do everything possible to ensure that we deliver on that promise.
