A message from our President, Bob Meyer: I am incredibly pleased to announce that the Washington Monthly magazine has recognized WITC as the 4th best two-year college in the nation! These results show how committed WITC’s entire staff is to helping each student experience success inside the classroom and beyond. In 2007, Washington Monthly ranked WITC as its 7th best two-year college in America. Three years later, the publication ranked WITC 6th among two-year colleges nationwide. The new 2013 ranking is confirmation that the College’s strategic plan and continuous improvement activities are making a difference for our students. According to the publication, the Washington Monthly ranking is based on two sources of information: the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) and the U.S. Department of Education measures of student retention and completion. The CCSSE benchmarks comprise five-eighths of each college’s ranking. The remaining three-eighths of each college’s ranking is based on data compiled annually by the National Center for Education Statistics at the U.S. Department of Education. More than two-thirds of all community colleges, approximately 700 institutions, were included in Washington Monthly’s analysis. The top 50 are published in the magazine and online.
