A moment to tell you all what a rock star my husband is, outside - TopicsExpress

A moment to tell you all what a rock star my husband is, outside of the everyday running-into-burning-buildings, jaws-of-life sort of stuff. He rearranged his work schedule and arranged my trip to my parents home in Ohio, taking me to the bus at 3am so I could get there with plenty of time. He took on his own job, plus everything I do at home for an entire week, and worked out all the scheduling complications that came up as a result. He called in every political resource he knew (and at this point, due to all his volunteering, thats quite a lot) to support the case against the hospital holding my Dad in Mexico. He spent time calling, emailing, talking to people figuring out what our rights were as American citizens and how to protect my Dad. He spent three crazy days driving around to Western Union offices trying to wire basically all our liquid cash to my brother in Mexico - never for a minute did he suggest that our joint money - that he earned - should be used any other way. He spent an entire morning cleaning the house (just so I wouldnt come home to a messy one!) and packing up clothes for himself and Scott, and also packed four separate complete formal outfits for me to wear to the funeral to make sure I was comfortable with what I had to wear. After doing that, he picked Scott up at school and drove for six hours to get to Cincinnati. He showed up, managed all the parenting as my brother and I navigated all the complications of arranging the funeral for my Dad and care for my Mom. He made sure we ate, had clean clothes, that the dishes were washed and everybody was driven where they needed to be. As we were returning home from the funeral, he took Scott with him to the funeral home to pick up all the artwork we had set up for my Dads visitation and brought it home. He then helped us move my Mom into her new apartment, renting the truck and doing most of the heavy lifting - which, considering she wanted the 6-foot-by-3-foot solid-wood desk from the attic, was HEAVY lifting. Two rooms full of furniture later, he arranged it all to be set up so that my Mom walked into a fully decorated apartment for the first time. He came back and helped me clean up my parents house so it looked like none of this had ever happened. THEN he got up, did laundry while I took my Mom to the doctor, and drove us six hours to get back to Evanston...so he would be in time for his next shift at work. Hes there now, just in case theres a fire to put out somewhere. I cannot believe how much I lucked out in life to be married to this man. Other rock stars in this crazy episode include Paul Blair, who has actually ascended to a height somewhere above that of rock star. I cant even write a post about all he did, but he did the most work in this whole crazy episode - I learned all kinds of new ways to deal with administration of paperwork and divisions of labor - and he took on all of the dangerous international travel incident parts, if that gives you an idea. Glad hes not a guest of the Cancun police and is safe back at home. Shout-outs to Lori Hiltenbeitel, Kathy Egan Hays, Lynda Blair Vernalia and family for their help and support in Cincinnati (and the Stuart Blair family who will never see this post because they have a love/hate relationship with the internet) and all the others that Im not able to enumerate right now. And thanks to Roy C. Hays for keeping Josie (and our car!) safe during the whole episode, despite both their best efforts to the contrary. And special thanks to all of you FB friends, who kept me going with all your notes of concern, wishes of support, offers of help, suggestions, hard work on our behalf - I cant tell you how important it was to all of us!
