A morning at the Chalet in Kandersteg International Scout Centre, - TopicsExpress

A morning at the Chalet in Kandersteg International Scout Centre, Switzerland. It is day 11. We have rolled up our pup-tents and decided to stay our last night in the Chalet so we can shower for the train ride home to Kaiserslautern, Germany. I have slept on top of my white, down comforter and feel as though I drifted on a cloud. I open the dormer window (as we are on the very top floor). There are no screens and the window opens out to a lush, green hillside dotted with purple and white mountain flowers. Cows outside graze placidly. They have colorful bells with yellow and red fringed leather belts attaching them to their necks. On the bells are painted Eidleweiss and blue and red wildflowers. They make the most pleasant noise as the cows heads move while grazing. It feels good to be clean after 10 days of camping and hiking. There is nothing quite so good as a shower for wonderfully sore muscles and smoke scented skin :). I put on jean shorts and a white, puff-sleeved peasant blouse that is embroidered on neck and sleeve edges in blue. My sandled feet make their way down narrow, worn wooden steps for a continental breakfast. The table is set with clean, white linen. Silver pitchers hold warm milk fresh from the cows I just saw grazing. I can smell the fresh bread in baskets on each table. There is real butter, almost white, in bowls, cheese and cold-cuts, and soft-boiled eggs on colorful stands. Swiss maidens cater to our needs. They are just as one would picture: blond hair, cotton dress with an apron kind smiles and quiet ways. This morning as I am remembering, I can smell the brotchen, see the brilliant red gardenias in window boxes, my nose is cold from the fresh mountain air. All around, with every sense of my body, I breathe in beauty and peace. Thank You, Papa God that I have this wonderful memory!
