A most heart-wrenching scene around 7pm tonight on 441/27 in front of our Skyline neighborhood :( an elderly woman on a three wheel bicycle was crossing the highway from our neighborhood headed to the Mobil gas station across the street when she was struck by a north-bound car and killed on impact. A horribly unfortunate accident and my heart aches for those involved and those who witnessed it. That area is hazardous for pedestrians to cross because its a large intersection including six lanes of 55mph steady traffic, a center turn lane median, and a turn lane on each side of the road...so its basically like crossing 9 lanes of hi-speed traffic! Too many people have been hurt in that intersection recently. That area needs to be lit up better so drivers can see pedestrians crossing more easily and cross walks need to be designated with clear signage to the far right and far left of that massive intersection of highway and turn lanes...not to mention the ridiculous need for U-turns right there because of the way the roadways traffic flow was designed. Changes need to be made...and Im calling the city tomorrow to see what steps I need to take to get these changes made to keep my neighborhood safe.
