A new Pay Equity Unit (Unit) is being established within the Fair Work Commission. The main functions of the Unit will be to undertake pay equity-related research and provide information to inform matters relating to pay equity under the Act. The immediate research priorities of the Unit are to: • publish an Equal Remuneration Framework that could facilitate future equal remuneration proceedings under Part 2–7 of the Act; • collect data on pay equity matters through involvement in a survey research project being undertaken by the Commission; and • undertake scoping work to review research and catalogue available data for use by the unit to inform the Commission about pay equity matters. Applications are invited for the filling of two Senior Researcher roles at the APS Level 6 classification. There is also a Research Assistant role at the APS Level 3 classification. All three roles are available on a non-ongoing specified term employment basis for periods of between 12 and 18 months. For the Senior Researcher roles you will: support the unit leader for research activities including the analysis of existing data and generation of new data and manage components of research projects, including design of quantitative survey instruments and preparation and analysis of survey data; establish and maintain relationships with industrial relations academic researchers and experts to maximize the quality of data and reporting produced by the unit; support the unit leader with management of contracts for data collection and other research services; and present findings of research to relevant stakeholders where applicable. One of these roles will involve the design of survey samples and construction of weights for survey data. For the Senior Researcher roles you will require demonstrated experience of undertaking workplace relations research, in particular: an understanding of the challenges of researching complex technical issues, knowledge of the provisions of the Act relevant to the consideration of pay equity and demonstrated experience in undertaking quantitative survey research.
