A new library is nearly complete in East Baton Rouge Parish, - TopicsExpress

A new library is nearly complete in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. It will feature dedicated space and tech for kids and teens, abundant light, 500K books, wi-fi and 130 computers for patrons. The roof will even help collect rainwater for plants. Sadly, the old building will be demolished, but it will allow for a parking area and pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly access. In her otherwise well-written article, reporter Elizabeth Crisp says stuffy rules normally associated with libraries will be gone since people will be able to do things like drink coffee and places for students to work collaboratively... as if libraries dont have these things already. Ms. Crisp may not be aware that most libraries today are not dusty shelves and shushing, but vibrant parts of the community that welcome all ages. Many libraries offer space for groups and collaboration if they have the space available. And many libraries, such as the illustrious NYPLs main Manhattan branch, the beautiful Parkway Central branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, or the lesser-known Livingston Library in New Jersey, already offer coffee. And for the libraries that dont actively sell coffee, I guarantee most coffee-drinking patrons will bring their own. Article: theadvocate/news/7564632-123/goodwood-library-designed-to-meet
