A new report from the University of Minnesota Center for Farm Financial Management estimates railroad delays have had a multi-million dollar impact on the basis level. From March-through-May, the study estimates Minnesota corn farmers lost $72 million. The basis loss for soybean farmers is close to $19 million and for wheat growers, the figure is $8.5 million. Tom Haag, who is a past president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, spoke at the ag freight forum in Alexandria Thursday. Haag said farmers have been hurt by the ongoing transportation delays. “We have to have better communication between farmers, elevators and transportation.”
