A new report has been presented to the UN that sets out a scheme in which Australia could reduce its reliance on coal with negligible adverse economic effects. The governments equivocation on the renewable energy target suggests its not yet ready to quit coal. Last year, Bill McKibben wrote about the big maths problem of climate change and just how little Australian coal needs to be burnt before wed close in on the catastrophic two-degree temperature spike.
