A note of thanks: In 2007, I appeared in my first play for SSP, (Pride written by Emilie Griffin) which was part of 7 Deadly Sins Ten Minute Festival. The following year, I saw my first 10 minute play produced, Hauks Personal Massager, and got acquainted with the SSP President Bill Griffin. Later that year, I was invited to become a member of the SSP Board of Directors. I felt honored and thrilled to be a part of something I considered very special. At the beginning of 2009, SSP was faced with a season without a Vice-President of Production. In March, I volunteered. From 2009-2014, I found great satisfaction working in every aspect of the production process. I take great pride in having been part of this wonderful organization. SSP has evolved, carving out its own niche in the local arts community; fostering and producing original live theater. The Ten Minute Festival has become a summer tradition in downtown Alexandria, and has attracted statewide attention for the quality of competition, filling the Hearn Stage at the Kress with enthusiastic audiences. SSP has successfully launched a One Act Festival that also focuses on original plays by local writers. In addition, SSP has successfully operated in the black financially each year since 2008, despite losing more than one grant because of the cutting edge nature of some productions! The group is in great hands now, guided by board of directors concerned more about the art than their own egos. On November 8, 2014, I chaired my last meeting as a a member of that board. I want to thank several people in particular for their encouragement and support, such as the aforementioned Bill Griffin, Dr. David Holcombe, Darlene Dufour, Belle Rollins, and Jeff Goelz. Spectral Sisters has been a wonderful experience for me, offering an opportunity to learn and grow both intellectually and personally. SSP really is a family of theater lovers, and Im so very proud to be a part of it. In the meantime, Ill see you at the theater!
