A notice from District Engineer David W. Peake of the Maryland State Highway Administration about upcoming roadwork in our first due area: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I am writing to provide a construction traffic update on the State Highway Administration (SHA) project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Park Heights Avenue (MD 129) over I-695 (Baltimore Beltway). Beginning on or after Tuesday, October 14, SHA and its contractor will institute the long-term construction traffic pattern on the Park Heights Avenue bridge (please see attached diagram). The bridge will be reduced from two through lanes in each direction to one through lane in each direction, and a new temporary traffic signal will control left turns from northbound Park Heights Avenue to the outer loop of I-695. The two-lane traffic pattern will be in effect for the remainder of the construction work. In the first stage of bridge construction work, there will be a construction area in the center of the bridge. In subsequent stages, the construction area will be on the east or west side of the bridge and crews will alter the traffic pattern as needed. Digital message boards will alert travelers prior to any traffic pattern shift on the bridge. During the next year, there will also be temporary single daytime lane closures on I-695 underneath the Park Heights Avenue bridge between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday. Temporary night-time single and double lane closures on I-695 will occur between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning Sunday – Thursday. Pedestrians will be able to travel along one side of the bridge at all times. There will also be temporary, short-term ramp closures and detours during the various stages of construction. The bridge rehabilitation project includes removal and replacement of the bridge deck (riding surface), side barriers, sidewalks and curbs on the bridge and replacement of one steel beam that was damaged by over-height trucks traveling on I-695; installation of new overhead bridge lighting; rehabilitation of the concrete support piers and the abutments at each end of the bridge; clean and paint the structural steel; reconstruct the pavement on the approaches to the bridge and widen the ramp and side road. SHAs contractor is Martins Construction Corporation of Falls Church, VA. Weather permitting, the bridge rehabilitation project will be complete late fall 2015. Citizens who have questions about highway construction on Park Heights Avenue, I-695 or any other State highway within Baltimore or Harford counties may contact SHAs District 4 Office – Construction Division in Hunt Valley at 410-229-2420, toll-free at 1-866-998-0367 or by e-mail: [email protected]. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- You can get more information from the SHA website at apps.roads.maryland.gov/WebProjectLifeCycle/ProjectInformation.aspx?projectno=BA502513
