A nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia? Has Pakistan made a secret deal with Saudi Kingdom to commission its nukes on the latters soil if Iran (by some miracle or was it Pakistans help??) acquired nukes? BBC ran a whole story on it today. If true then I think our military-political leadership need an expert shrink. Are we crazy to jump in a cauldron of sectarian and racial war that was lighted the day Arabs conquered Iran and that has been going on unabated for more than fourteen hundred years now and its incendiary affects have now engulfed not only far and wide the Middle East but much of the South Asia is sucked into it and here Muslims are bitterly pitted against one another in bloody sectarian turf wars ( (less for religious glory and more for regional and internal political supremacy). It raises a pertinent question: Why is our ruling elite/establishment so prone to being proxies and pawns in the others regional and international wars. Who are they to hedge the lives and destinies of 200 million people of this country? Do they realize the social, economic and political costs of this potentially disastrous deal? How will the world treat a country that uses its nukes as merchandises? Will the country be able to take the brunt of the resulting international sanctions and being excommunicated by the international community? True, the country needs the Kingdom for oil on deferred payment and the King’s help in resolving the intra-elites tiffs and providing them with safe havens when they run away from the country or exiled ( as did Nawaz Sharif and later Pervaiz Musharaf), but to turn this nuclear state veritably into a rent-a-nuke outlet is tantamount to committing a collective hara kiri. Of course, when the crunch comes, the deal makers will be enjoying their stay in safe havens in the UAE or elsewhere, though they will receive the retribution in one or the other form. That is the lesson of history taught to all those who betrayed their compatriots. Therefore, its time an official inquiry into this alleged deal is made, and a serious debate in the national assembly and media is also urgently required to expose the deal, if any, and to nip it in the bud.
