A number of violent incidents occurred yesterday afternoon and overnight in Darwin and suburbs. The first happened at Dinah Beach Boat ramp area around 3.15pm when a 75 year old male was punched to the ground by a 30 year old male. This happened because the 75 year old took exception to the amount of wake occasioned by the younger man’s boat at the ramp. The 75 year old suffered facial bruising and a bump to the back of his head. The second occurred just after 10pm when a 29 year old taxi driver was punched in the eye by a passenger who was amongst a group he had just conveyed from the Casino to Millner and then back to the Mindil Beach area. He described his attacker as being 17 – 18 years of aboriginal appearance wearing a black singlet. The next was just after 10.30pm when a 59 year old male presented to a house in Chapman Rd Rapid Creek asking for assistance with a nasty ear injury. He had been drinking a carton on the Nightcliff foreshore with a friend when an unknown male approached and asked to share. The 59 year old refused and had a rock thrown at his head. His ear was smashed and he was conveyed to RDH for treatment. He described his attacker as a tall young looking and of aboriginal descent. The final matter occurred just after midnight and involved a 21 year old male who was found lying in a housing block at Nightcliff with a small stab wound to the shoulder. His injuries are not life threatening and suspected to be a result of a family dispute. All matters are being investigated and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
