A packed week of activities at the UWI Visual Arts Degree Art and Design Exhibition 2014 The Visual Arts Unit of the Department of Creative and Festival Arts is pleased to invite the public to the Final Year Degree Show, which opens on May 4 at 4p.m. This group of aspiring artists is the largest class ever taught at the Visual Arts Unit and is comprised of 38 students with specialisms in several areas of Fine Art and Design. The range of works on display includes paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, as well as illustrated graphic novels, children’s books, textiles and an app to aid in the teaching of biology, among other exciting projects. A packed schedule of activities is planned for the week of the exhibitions, including an open house on May 6 and 7, from 10 am to 6 pm, where interested members of the public can meet with the Design and Fine Arts students to discuss their work. Professional artists and lecturers Che Lovelace and Jamaican-born Kofi Kayiga, as well as designer Donna Tull, are scheduled to meet with the students on May 8, to share some of their experience. Christopher Jordan, an exchange student from Pacific Lutheran University, will also share the stage with a short presentation on his final year project, a mural at Richmond St. Boys Anglican School. The evening will end with a display of short films by students from 7 pm to 8 pm.
