A perfect 9 mile hike today. Not so unusual in and of itself. Ipod charged, tunes thought out before hand, all systems go. What WAS unusual was the fact the music never left my backpack. The music today manifested in the crunch underneath my hiking boots. In the perfect cadence of my breathing. In the periodic whirrrr of quail flushing. In the sound of the wind through the Palo Verde trees. In the knowledge of what hikes up must eventually hike down. In knowing I have food, water, and shelter waiting for me at the end......
