A personal note to those who find my constant attention to Conservative, GOP and police abuses disturbing: Do you really find it less disturbing that these things go un-noticed, unpunished, excused? Do you think a peaceful rejection of these sorts of policies and abuses is possible without genuine fear by the enemy leadership or enemy agents that they have pushed too far and are now risking open revolution? In the past two years I have seen the discourse and rhetoric change markedly on the left. Outright hatred of the 1% is evident with little acknowledgement that a George Soros or Bill Gates or Elon Musk or Richard Branson or Oprah (who are clearly part of any economically defined 1%) might be doing the best they can in a system that is really designed to enable instead the Koch brothers or Sheldon Adelson or the terrorist sociopaths who declared oil spills good for the BC coastline. I suppose I have done my share to incite that, but never against any involuntary or instantly identifiable faction. Indeed the worst people are probably those who carry out the values-free pricing edicts of the global markets or the agenda of hard core science denialists. Editors of TV news stories. People who unquestioningly refer to the natural capital of Earth as natural resources as if they could yield anything of value to life while being busted up and sold off. Unquestioning patriots of Canada who stood for asbestos, baby seal hunts, clear cut forestry for stump fees that did not pay even for replanting, and Arctic sovereignty used only to further melt the ice. These people created and supported Stephen Harper, Joe Oliver and Koch brothers. These people are the ones who ought to be named and shamed, not in most cases their 1% masters. Hitler was supported by a substantial minority of Germans in 1933 and possibly by a majority as late as 1939 or even perhaps 1943. It took a lot of deep change and ruthless elimination of Nazis from decision making positions to remove that cancer. It will take just as much to eliminate conservatives from all decision making processes in North America over the next few decades. If you have any better idea how to do that than to make them ashamed of themselves, by all means, say so. Its time to start designing the post-Koch world.
