A police officer was allegedly bitten and another assaulted during the arrest of a man and woman at Bass Hill, yesterday. Police attached to the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) and Bankstown Local Area Command conducted a vehicle stop in Waldron Road, Chester Hill, about 1.30pm (Friday 29 August 2014), but will allege the driver reversed into a parked car and drove away, hitting two signs. About an hour later the driver, a 36-year-old man, was arrested in a shopping centre in Bass Hill. A 21-year-old woman with him was also arrested, and a laptop seized. A Bankstown officer was allegedly bitten by the woman, while a second officer sustained grazes and cuts during the arrest. The VW van was searched during which police allegedly found methamphetamine and a knife. The two were taken to Bankstown Police Station where they were charged. The man, from Bankstown, has been charged with 10 offences: • Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (Skye’s Law); • Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous; • Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception; • Goods in custody suspected of being stolen; • Assault police; • Resist arrest; and, • Drive while disqualified (three counts). He was also charged with an outstanding warrant. The woman, from South Grafton, was charged with: • Assault police causing actual bodily harm; and, • Resist arrest. She was also charged with one outstanding warrant. Both were refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court later today (Saturday 30 August 2014).
