A post from another group…because this is IMPORTANT (I altered the description to protect privacy but kept the salient points): Post: Child, age unknown, history of flu successfully treated with homeopathic remedies but today he couldnt walk, complained of intense calf pain and knee joint swelling along with a little nodule on his forearm. He was unable to walk. Many responses has to do with Lyme, many said…go to the doctor. My response follows: I just read all the responses here concerning early Lyme, etc...people, no offense intended, if the description is accurate, then the most serious conditions need to be elucidated and treated FIRST. Sudden, intense knee pain and swelling along with calf pain? The differential diagnosis includes septic joint, DVT, cellulitis.....consider these way before you consider Lyme, RA, or any other etiology. The danger here would be the results of non or delayed treatment. Namely, permanent joint damage, septicemia (blood poisoning), pulmonary embolus, and death (am I being fairly clear here?). This child needs medical assessment stat! I spent 10 years as an ER nurse...these symptoms are not to be treated lightly. Keep the other diagnoses in the back of your mind but rule out the serious stuff first...PLEASE!!!! Dr. Jess -------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone, we are oriented to alternative medicine…and that is a good thing…it is what allows us to cure those who have not been allowed to heal. The most DANGEROUS thing in our profession is to do what the traditional doctors do, in reverse. That is, to misrecognize or ignore serious symptoms that can lead to dire consequences. Please, please always keep the most serious stuff in your head when considering someone’s condition…rule it out (at least in your thoughts) before you move on. If you are a lay person and are unsure of your direction, it is best to have a health care practitioner on speed dial as a consultant. Dr. Jess.
