A preliminary-magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck 9 miles north of Castaic on Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The shallow quake occurred at 6:58 p.m., according to the USGS. Its depth was measured at 1.3 miles. The temblors epicenter, in northwest Los Angeles County, was located 16 miles north-northwest of Santa Clarita, 22 miles northeast of Fillmore and 24 miles west of Quartz Hill, the Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
